Research & Analyze
In the defining stage, the first task is to distill the insights gathered during the Empathize phase into a clear research plan. This plan outlines the key questions about the problem and identifies the most suitable research methods to find answers. A critical part of this stage is defining the criteria for potential test participants to ensure that the findings are relevant and actionable. By systematically analyzing the data, we uncover patterns, opportunities, and pain points that guide the next steps in the design process.
Methods for Research & Analysis:
Affinity Mapping – organizing research findings into clusters to identify patterns and insights
Competitive Analysis – studying similar products to uncover best practices and opportunities for differentiation
Surveys & Questionnaires – gathering quantitative and qualitative data to validate assumptions
User Journey Mapping – visualizing the user’s experience to spot pain points and opportunities
Card Sorting – understanding how users categorize information to improve navigation and structure
Data Analysis & Synthesis – examining collected data to extract meaningful insights and actionable recommendations
Benchmarking – comparing performance, usability, and features against industry standards
